Treatment of Syndesmosis Disruptions With TightRope Fixation
نویسنده
چکیده
Open reduction and screw fixation is the current standard treatment for displaced injuries of the ankle syndesmosis. Despite reduction and stable internal fixation, however, these injuries do not uniformly have excellent outcomes. In addition, screw fixation has potential disadvantages. The objective of this article was to provide an overview of the important anatomical and biomechanical issues relating to syndesmosis injuries and to present the surgical technique and potential advantages of fixation with the TightRope implant(Arthrex Inc, Naples, Fla). The shortterm results of an ongoing prospective, randomized clinical trial are also presented.

A prospective randomised study comparing TightRope and syndesmotic screw fixation for accuracy and maintenance of syndesmotic reduction assessed with bilateral computed tomography.
BACKGROUND The accuracy and maintenance of syndesmosis reduction are essential when treating ankle fractures with accompanying syndesmosis injuries. The primary aim of this study was to compare syndesmosis screw and TightRope fixation in terms of accuracy and maintenance of syndesmosis reduction using bilateral computed tomography (CT). STUDY DESIGN Single centre, prospective randomised contr...
متن کاملTightrope walking: A new technique in ankle syndesmosis fixation
Over the past few years, several studies have demonstrated favorable clinical outcomes and low complication rates using the ankle Tightrope® syndesmosis fixation system. The traditional surgical procedure of screw fixation for syndesmosis injury is associated with high complication rates of loosening, screw fracture, nonanatomic fixation, and postoperative syndesmotic diastasis. It is expected ...

Fractures of the adult anlde with disruption of the tibiofibular syndesmosis call for sufficient stabilization of the ankle mortise to ensure proper healing of the syndesmotic ligaments. Several internal fixation techniques for stabilization of the syndesmosis have been employed in the past, including 3.5 mm, 4.5 mm, and 5.0 mm metallic and bioabsorbable screws, 1.5 mm and 1.5 mm Kirschner wire...
متن کاملAnkle syndesmosis repair and rehabilitation in professional rugby league players: a case series report
BACKGROUND/AIM The distal tibiofibular joint is described as a syndesmosis. Traditionally, severe syndesmotic injuries with diastasis have been treated surgically with screw fixation. This case series details an ankle syndesmosis tightrope repair and an accelerated rehabilitation protocol that reduces the amount of time to return to professional rugby league in the UK. The aim of this study was...

Reconstruction of unstable syndesmotic injuries is not trivial, and there is no generally accepted treatment guidelines. Thus, there still remain considerable controversies regarding diagnosis, classification and treatment of syndesmotic injuries. Syndesmotic malreduction is the most common indication for early re-operation after ankle fracture surgery, and widening of the ankle mortise by only...
